Dream Weaver Blog Hop

Welcome to my portion of this fun Dream Weaver Stencil blog hop.

I am balloon happy right now. October is balloon fiesta in Albuquerque, which is an hour south of Santa Fe. Hundreds of balloons in the air on a warm fall day is one of the most colorful things I have ever seen!
Here I have created two different examples using the balloon stencil (LL3003).

This first card I created using a balloon stamp as the background. Stamp A Mania makes the balloon stamp (SF6605K). The card has been painted with Twinkling H20 watercolors.  I stenciled the balloon with Vivid inks and stencil brushes -- remember to have a brush for each color group to keep them clean. Cut out the balloon and use dimensional adhesive to place it on the card.

The second balloon creation is a page for an altered book. Using a map from England, I wrapped the page with part of the map to create the background on the page. Trim the corners as you fold them to remove the excess paper. This will allow the paper to lay smoothly on the back and along the edges.

The balloon was stenciled on white card stock with Ranger Distress Inks and cut out.  I then cut a piece of black paper to create shadow and set the balloon from the busy map background.

Next, I played with two stencils on one of my favorite mediums: tags! For these I used thistle (LL3001) and fern (LM2006) with Ranger Distress Inks and stencils brushes. The tag on the left, I stenciled the ferns in first, using varying shades of green to create a bit of depth to the image. Then I added the thistles in the back.  The right tag is three thistles, layered as I stenciled, no masking. The beauty of stencils is that you can see where you have already put ink. This allows you to work around that part, keeping it in the foreground. To finish I added a bit of ribbon by May Arts..

Now on to the next blog: Liz Martin at Black Cat Studios. Have fun and go crazy with all the great ideas we are giving you. Do forget to leave a comment for a chance at a free Dream Weaver Stencil!

  10. I absolutely love balloons, and yours are lovely! I need to think more often about cutting out a stenciled and pasted item and offsetting it, my efforts would take on a better look. Thanks for the tip! I'll wave at you next time I'm in Albuquerque :) I would love to win the LJ819 stencil, along with Navajo Sky FX and Glossy Red embossing paste - not necessarily to be used together!

  12. Lee,
Like some of the others have commented, I have a stack of tags that I will now, after seeing your posts, be pulling out to use. I love the cards you have on your blog from August, with the pear and Holly Flourish and the other one using the Branch and berries stencil. I would love to try my hand using the LG 731 Holly Flourish, my choice if selected. It is so delicate and elegant looking when placed over the pear stencil. I'd also select the translucent paste. I'd try pasting the trans. paste over the Holly flourish to give it some sparkle. My F/X choice would be Kimono Red.

  13. Hi Lee,

I love the coloring on the balloons and the idea of using it on the map. The tags are great too. If I were to win, my choices would be: LG 663 Peace On Earth Stencil, Glossy White Paste & Metallic FX11 Garden Ivy. This stencil would be used for Christmas or Winter Scenery card. Have a great weekend. Linda E.

  20. You are so lucky to be near the balloon festival! I love how you put the balloon over the map. If I win I'd love the LL3001 Thistle plate, some metallic silver paste and Navajo sky metallic f/x

  21. love the tags with the ferns and thistle. Great placement and color selection. I like the tip about being able to see "through" the stencil and thus being able to color in only certain parts to change the depth of the image!! I would like to try the bird and blossom stencil and see if I could do something similar with that one. Would like to try some translucent paste and perhaps some Purple satin mica powder to play around with.

  24. You mentioned in an earlier post keeping a few tags handy to leave quick note or thank-you, and the fern and thistle tags are just the thing to have on hand. It's such a good idea and a nice thing to do.
